Spent Potliner Plant

Spent Potliner Plant
Regain Services together with Tomago Aluminium, has made an application to the NSW Department of Planning to install and operate a full-scale Spent Potliner processing plant.

Environmental Benefits

The Regain approach to the processing the by-products of the aluminium production process have a number of environmental benefits.

Most Regain operations are located on Client sites. The benefit in this approach is that by-product materials are intercepted before they become part of a waste stream.

Regain operates under an integrated management system (the Regain Management System) that covers all aspects of Regain’s activities. The Regain Management System is built on International Standards Organisation (ISO) quality principles. It provides a comprehensive system of communication, control and governance with the flexibility to adapt to the operating environmental of each Client.

Reference standards for the Regain Management System are:

  • AS/NZ 4360 Risk Management
  • AS/NZ 4801 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
  • ISO 9000 Quality Standards
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Standards
  • Australian Business Excellence Framework
  • Australian Accounting Standards

Analysis of Raw Materials and Identification of Potential Products

Aluminium smelters are not all alike. Production processes and handling methods differ, resulting in varying by-products from smelter to smelter. Regain analyse the carbon, refractory and other smelter by-products to establish the optimum processing methods for each site. Appropriate markets or re-use options for the new products and then determined.

Custom Built for Each Site

Regain develops the optimum processes for each smelter. This may involve design and construction of purpose-built processing machinery or extensive trialling and adjustment of the Regain Mineral Products Plant. This is a fully enclosed, dust-free, relocatable plant specially developed for processing Aluminium Smelter by-products. Regain's on site capability eliminates additional environmental controls and removes the need for off-site waste-tracking documentation.

Process Controls

Once processes have been developed for a smelter they become documented, standard procedure. Product quality is then maintained through continuous monitoring and testing.
